David Stocks
Owner
Our fencing business was launched in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire by David Stocks. A man with traditional values and a strong work ethic, his services were soon in demand.
Having graduated from Reading University with a BSC in Agriculture, David gained employment at Chorley Farm, on the West Wycombe Estate. His boss, Archie Bell was a progressive farmer and during his 10 Years on the farm, David was involved in its transition from dairy to arable.
From farms to fencing
Having had a successful career in Farming, Archie took early retirement and relinquished his tenancy of the farm. David interviewed for roles on other farms in the South of England, but having worked at such a modern and successful farm, nothing fitted.
David was able to buy the tied cottage that came with his job and remain in West Wycombe.
As redundancy payment, Archie offered David the pick of the farm’s tractors and implements so that he could start up offering general agricultural contracting services to other farms in the area and his first clients were the brothers who took on the tenancy of Chorley Farm.
The Success of Stocks' Fencing
The client base has grown organically into all industries, for example, from farms to schools, to equine studs, to data centres, to film sets, to commercial forests.
We are proud that the majority of our business has always come from word-of-mouth recommendations. Quite simply, this is because we are conscientious fencing installers who care about the countryside and build strong relationships with the people we work for.
Family
Four decades on and David is still at the helm conducting site visits, preparing quotations and on the tools.
He is joined by his 2 sons and son-in-law in running the jobs so that a family member is always on-site.
